Trying to Make Sense of it All, 1

Every morning, lately, I get up around 6 a.m., stumble into the kitchen to make my large "café au lait", and then begin exercising while watching the U.S. news. I have had to put exercise first if I don't want to end up like the Tin Man, rusting in place. In an hour and a half I go through a number of interesting programs.

It occurred to me from the beginning that we are looking at a bizarre moment in history. I recently decided to try to document some of the circus in D.C., in order to make sense of it and to maybe leave a record for my grandchildren.

The notebook format allows me to insert better paper for sketching in between the writing paper. This is a scrappy journal that allows me to play.

People say some of the strangest things these days...

If a picture is worth a thousand words, yours has said it all. These days I am disgusted with the behavior displayed on the TV. In the early 60s when I came to Japan, it was the era of the "ugly American" and we were all being judged by the actions of thoughtless tourists. Foreigners really stuck out in Tokyo and I was ever so careful not to do or say something that might cause poor opinions of americans. I feel like history is repeating itself.

Impossible to 'make sense' out of nonsense I think, but wonderful material for fiction. It's all so outrageous that if you wrote it, it wouldn't be believable. Still, great diary and sketch material. An activity not unlike exercising to keep the rust off...an exercise to keep sanity in balance with reality!

You will find plenty of fodder for journaling from that man - bizarre doesn't even begin to touch it. He's quite simply a one-man wrecking ball.

I find it distressing knowing that the whole world is laughing at the US. No dignity left. Good to see you are creating because of it.

I often wonder what the rest of the world is thinking about the debacle that is our president. Good for you for documenting it.
